4 Days 3 Night Climbing Mount Meru

Day 1: From Arusha Town to Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut (1,500m to 2,514m)

Your big adventure starts in Arusha town! You’ll head to Momella Gate, where you’ll sign in to keep everything smooth and fun. Then, you’ll begin hiking through grassy fields and small bushes—it’s like walking in a huge, open park! You might see giraffes, buffaloes, or playful monkeys. After 4 to 6 hours of hiking, you’ll reach Miriakamba Hut at 2,514 meters. This is where you’ll rest and get excited for the next day!

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut (2,514m to 3,570m)

After hiking for 3 to 5 hours, you’ll arrive at Saddle Hut, which is 3,570 meters high. This cozy spot sits between Mount Meru and a smaller peak called Little Meru (3,820 meters). Day 3: Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak (4,566m) and Back to Miriakamba Hut

Get ready for an early morning adventure! On day three, you’ll wake up at 2 a.m. to start climbing before the sun comes up. You’ll hike to 3,800 meters and see the incredible volcanic craters of Mount Meru. As you keep going, you’ll reach Cobra Point (4,350 meters) just before sunrise. When the sun rises, you’ll see Mount Meru’s volcano glowing in golden light, with Mount Kilimanjaro shining far away and the Rift Valley stretching out below. Finally, you’ll reach the top at 4,566 meters! After taking in the amazing view, you’ll head back to Miriakamba Hut to rest.

Day 4: Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate

When you reach Momella Gate, you’ll get a special certificate to show everyone you climbed Mount Meru and made it to the top. What a proud moment!

Packing List for Your Mount Meru Climb

To have a fun and safe climb up Mount Meru, pack these essentials to stay comfy and prepared!

  • Clothing: Bring lightweight, quick-drying t-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, and trekking pants or shorts. Pack a warm fleece or down jacket, a waterproof jacket or poncho, a sun hat, a warm hat, and gloves for cold mornings. Don’t forget extra moisture-wicking socks, sleepwear, and personal toiletries.
  • Footwear: Wear sturdy hiking boots with good ankle support for the trails. Bring camp sandals or lightweight shoes for relaxing at camp.
  • Gear & Equipment: Carry a daypack for your hikes, a cold-weather sleeping bag, a headlamp with extra batteries, and UV-protection sunglasses. Trekking poles are helpful but optional.
